Plastic high imprint cookie stamps found at craft supplies make the best embossed cookies.
Stoneware and Terra cotta make more subtle images.
The finished baked buttery rich, slightly sweet shortbread cookies awaiting my friend Sally from Brooklyn, NY, Leo and his Aunt Wanda, David, Anita, Cheryl, Kathy, Shelley. Allan, Thomas and my other special friends in Las Vegas.
Note: World Market has wonderful ceramics and stoneware and the heart baking dish is oven and microwave safe.. Make custards, muffins, quick breads, miniature cakes or quiches.

2 and a half cups all purpose unbleached flour. I used Trader Joe’s
1 cup butter or a good quality canola oil margarine, at room temperature
1/2 cup granulated sugar
1/2 teaspoon pure almond extract
Mix all together in a Kitchen Aid mixer or by hand, until they butter is distributed throughout, and forms pebble like crumbs.
Then press together with your hands small balls of dough, and put in an airtight storage container. That way, the dough won’t dry out while you’re shaping and baking then cookies.
Bake small cookies at 300 degrees farenheit for 15 minutes, checking after 15 and until dry on top but not to brown.
Recipe coming adapted by Paulette Motzko from the shortbread recipe on the blog Tapestry Threads.
